It’s official: Khazanah Nasional is steering Malaysia Airlines (MAS) down the privatisation route. Recall that in June KiniBiz explored whether this path can keep MAS flying and the four crucial issues that must be addressed. After a long history of nearly seven decades, what sort of transformation will MAS see this time around?
We can only wait and see as the market bids MAS goodbye after 14 years being listed. In the meantime, we published some exclusive news, analyses and comments this week. You won’t find these anywhere else, so here’s a checklist in case you missed a few:
Pick 1 — Transforming a nation. Approaching four years since its launch, how is the government’s ambitious National Transformation Programme progressing? Pick 4 — Democracy challenges growth. Democracy has been a runway for many countries to take off towards modernisation, but is it an obstacle to growth? KiniBiz columnist Poh Kok Bing explores the question here.
Pick 5 — Mercosur blues. Mercosur, the six-nation trade grouping for South America, met this week. Amid the usual bluster against imperialism, however, was an unmistakable scent of decay, wrote Andrés Velasco, a former finance minister of Chile this week. Read on here.
Pick 6 — A new world of health care. Traditional health care systems are in trouble, wrote Prabhjot Singh, academic and Chair of the One Million Community Health Worker Campaign in Sub-Saharan Africa.
