Issue 015 of KINIBIZ Magazine hits the stands today with its lead story on the concept of project delivery partners (PDPs).
Our Cover story deals with one major way that costs can be cut by the government – proper utilisation or alternative methods to this concept of project delivery partners (PDPs), which is threatening to become another way of siphoning off precious government funds.
Our series of articles identifies some RM114 billion worth of projects which are now going the PDP way, where some companies will oversee the projects and assume the risks in return for a fee which is typically 6%, or nearly RM7 billion! What exactly are they being paid for, is it worth it, and are there alternatives? These are just some of the questions that need to be answered. Read about it starting on page 60.
And then there is the other potential place which probably will become a sinkhole for government money in future. We are of course referring to that excuse of a strategic development company, 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB), which has borrowed money willy-nilly without being able to fully account for it in any way which gives clarity or inspires confidence.
In connection with this, read our comments about how we can really inspire confidence as a nation in itself and whether Bank Negara Malaysia can sue 1MDB in the absence of any concrete action from the attorney-general (AG). Recall that the AG absolved 1MDB of any blame even though Bank Negara claimed that they had breached the Exchange Control Act. Read about it on page 21 and 25.
Elsewhere, we examine whether the spectre of imported inflation will rear its ugly head following the ringgit’s tumble against the US dollar and the implications for us mortal folk from this (page 27 – ‘Could the battered ringgit result in imported inflation?’). But take heart, the oil price’s fall might help alleviate some.
In our Enterprise story for this issue, read about one gutsy lady who took the unusual step for a woman of setting up and making a success of The Otomotif College and building it into a brand for the production of technicians for the automotive industry. And she has plans to take it further and expand in the international realm. Go to page 71 for the story.
Followers of the exploits of prominent but reclusive billionaire Syed Mokhtar Al-Bukhary, who probably has given less interviews than the fingers on one hand in his long career, should read about his acquisition of yet another port. Is it one port too many for him? We examine this on page 14.
