KL shares end higher on buying support

Markets Evening close Bursa Malaysia inside story 01Bursa Malaysia extended its gains for the third day today with the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) up 0.3% on buying support for selected blue chips led by Petronas Gas.

The FBM KLCI rose by 4.88 points to finish at 1,631.54 compared with Tuesday’s close of 1,626.66 points.

The key benchmark index, which opened higher at 1,627.30, hit its highest level at 1,640.84 points in the morning session.

Market breadth was positive with gainers outpacing losers by 463 to 375, with 356 counters unchanged, 568 counters untraded and 59 others suspended.

Total volume rose to 1.62 billion shares worth RM1.65 billion from 1.56 billion shares worth RM1.71 billion yesterday.

Petronas Gas contributed 2.22 points to the increase in the key index. It rose 66 sen to RM21.88 with 670,900 shares traded.

Share prices of other oil and gas (O&G) counters such as SapuraKencana, Petronas Chemicals, Dialog and Bumi Armada were also up as the global benchmark for the crude oil price consolidated at US$30 a barrel.

An equity trader said Bursa Malaysia gained strength today from an upbeat overnight performance on Wall Street.

“Investors and bargain hunters started nibbling at value buys selectively, with focus on O&G counters, as players bet the recalibrated Budget 2016 tomorrow would still have an impetus on the industry,” he said.

On the scoreboard, the FBM Emas Index rose 30.78 points to 11,336.08, FBMT100 Index surged 28.32 points to 11,041.91 and the FBM Emas Syariah Index advanced 32.47 points to 12,233.67.

The FBM 70 was 15.38 points better at 12,588.71. The FBM ACE declined 34.07 points to 5,793.09.

On a sectoral basis, the Finance Index gained 43.68 points to 13,596.22 and the Plantation Index climbed 21.52 points to 7,491.81. The Industrial Index fell 10.03 points to 3,164.26.

Among active stocks, XOX Bhd improved 0.5 sen to 18.5 sen and AirAsia X added 1.5 sen to 23 sen. Sanichi, Tiger Synergy and The Media Shoppe were flat at 7 sen, 8 sen, 7 sen and 9 sen respectively.

Main Market volume eased to 955.41 million units worth RM1.52 billion from Tuesday’s 1.03 billion units worth RM1.6 billion.

Turnover on the ACE Market improved to 428.85 million shares valued at RM81.60 million from 274.85 million shares valued at RM53.75 million yesterday.

Warrants decreased to 238.31 million units worth RM46.05 million from Tuesday’s 250.28 million units worth RM52.99 million.

Consumer products accounted for 131.04 million shares traded on the Main Market, industrial products (180.82 million), construction (35.99 million), trade and services (376.66 million), technology (33.02 million), infrastructure (7.83 million), Spac (20.36 million), finance (37.45 million), hotels (512,300), properties (105.62 million), plantations (16.55 million), mining (0), Reits (9.55 million) and closed/fund (1,000).
