KL shares higher at mid-day

Markets Noon close Bursa Malaysia inside story 01The benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) finished the morning session 5.61 points, or 0.34%, better at 1,632.27 from Tuesday’s close of 1,626.66 points on buying support for selected blue chips led by Petronas Gas.

Contributing 2.29 points to the rise in the composite index, Petronas Gas chalked up 68 sen to RM21.90 with 206,200 shares traded.

Share prices of other oil and gas counters such as SapuraKencana, Petronas Chemicals, Dialog and Bumi Armada were also up as the global benchmark for the crude oil price consolidated at US$30 a barrel.

The key benchmark index traded within a 13.54-point range, opening higher at 1,627.3, and hit its highest level at 1,640.84 points at 9.37am.

Market breadth was positive with gainers outpacing decliners 405 to 310, while 331 counters were unchanged, 716 untraded and 59 others were suspended.

Turnover stood at 787.03 million shares worth RM674.05 million.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 gained 1.87% to 17,020.78, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng added 0.56% to 18,967.31 and Singapore’s Strait Times Index improved 0.58% to 2,559.72.

Back home, the FBM Emas Index jumped 31.92 points to 11,337.22, the FBMT100 Index increased 30.42 points to 11,044.01 and the FBM Emas Syariah Index gained 30.88 points to 12,232.08.

The FBM 70 rose 7.52 points to 12,580.85 while the FBM ACE added 24.72 points to 5,861.88.

Sector-wise, the Finance Index bagged 44.08 points to 13,596.62, the Plantation Index climbed 20.16 points to 7,490.45, while the Industrial Index shed 5.81 points to 3,168.48.

Among actives, The Media Shoppe and Sanichi were flat at 9 sen and 7 sen respectively, while Eka Noodles and SapuraKencana-CW improved 1 sen each to 14.5 sen and 3 sen respectively.
