KL shares remain higher at mid-morning

Markets Mid-morning Bursa Malaysia inside story 01Bursa Malaysia remained higher at mid-morning today after the oil price recovered to US$30 per barrel, dealers said.

At 11.02am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 15.52 points higher at 1,616.44, compared with Thursday’s close of 1,600.92.

It had opened higher at 1,609.40.

Oil prices rebounded by over US$1 per barrel from 12-year lows yesterday.

JF Apex Research said following the positive performance led by the higher oil price, the FBM KLCI is expected to rise today towards its resistance of 1,620 points.

Market breadth was positive with gainers outpacing losers 517 to 183, with 249 counters unchanged, 803 untraded and 21 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 742.15 million shares worth RM449.17 million.

Among heavyweights, Maybank gained 9 sen to RM8.27, TNB increased 16 sento RM12.78, Public Bank ticked up 32 sen to RM18.18, but Petronas Chemicals was unchanged at RM6.91.

Among actives, Sanichi Technology gained 1 sen to 8 sen, XOX and Instacom gained half-a-sen each to 16.5 sen and 29 sen respectively, while Hibiscus Petroleum recovered 1 sen to 15 sen.

Of the top losers, Dutch Lady fell 4 sen to RM46.68, British American Tobacco eased 3 sen to RM54.20, Prestariang lost 14 sen to RM2.76 and Boustead dropped 9 sen to RM3.80.

Among the top gainers, Public Bank rose 32 sen to RM18.18, Fraser & Neave gained 30 sen to RM18.30 while PPB Group and Petronas Dagangan each added 28 sen to RM15.90 and RM24.08 respectively.

On the scoreboards, the FBM Emas Index increased 100.14 points to 11,277.02, the FBMT100 added 96.96 points to 10,978.37 and the FBM Emas Shariah Index accumulated 85.45 points to 12,191.05.

The FBM 70 rose 80.97 points to 12,655.14, and the FBM Ace perked 78.29 points to 5,932.69.

Sector-wise, the Industrial Index rose 11.38 points to 3,110.50, the Plantation Index increased 28.47 points to 7,456.13 and the Finance Index leaped 157.93 points to 13,539.83.
