Bursa Malaysia stayed in the negative zone at the mid-day break today despite the uptrend on regional markets.
At 12.30pm, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) stood at 1,613.72, down 5.11 points from yesterday’s close of 1,618.83, after moving between 1,609.38 and 1,618.06 throughout the morning session.
It had opened lower at 1,616.12.
Market breadth was negative with losers outpacing gainers 439 to 252, with 345 counters unchanged, 715 untraded and 21 others suspended.
Turnover amounted to 1 billion shares worth RM660.22 million.
Dealer said sentiment at the local bourse remained tepid as investors turned bearish triggered by the oil rout.
Leading the top gainers, Concrete Engineering gained 19 sen to RM2.13, while Genting Plantations increased 18 sen to RM10.20, Carlsberg rose 14 sen to RM11.68 and Guinness Anchor increased 12 sen to RM13.58.
Of the top losers, British American Tobacco fell 84 sen to RM55.12, Nestle lost 42 sen to RM73, Dutch Lady decreased 22 sen to RM47.06 and UMS fell 20 sen to RM2.80.
Among heavyweights, TNB eased 4 sen to RM12.84, Public Bank fell 14 sen to RM18, Axiata eased 1 sen to RM6.13 and Petronas Chemicals was unchanged at RM6.99.
Among actives, Berjaya gained 3.5 sen to 37.5 sen and Instacom inched up 1 sen to 16 sen.
On the scoreboards, the FBM Emas Index reduced 44.05 points to 11,278.91, the FBMT100 Index decreased 36.91 points to 10,972.07 and the FBM Emas Syariah Index fell 53.96 points at 12,207.45.
The FBM 70 slipped 50.43 points to 12,692.08 and the FBM ACE accumulated 14.36 points to 6,009.42.
Sector-wise, the Industrial Index gave up 20.74 points to 3,102.46, the Finance Index weakened 40.93 points for 13,529.23 and the Plantation Index was 8.35 points higher at 7,461.12.
