Securities Commission (SC) chairman Ranjit Ajit Singh will head the Emerging Markets Committee (EMC) of the International Organisation of Securities Commissions (IOSCO), an organisation with 86 members worldwide representing the fastest growing economies.
The EMC will be the largest committee within the IOSCO, which also includes 10 of the G20 members, the SC said in a statement on its website. Under his new appointment, Ranjit will also be the vice-chair of the governing Board of IOSCO and will represent the EMC at the Financial Stability Board (FSB).
“In light of the complexity of regulation and given the increasingly important role of emerging markets like Malaysia, it is critical that emerging markets are involved in the discussions and design of the global regulatory architecture,” Ranjit was quoted as saying in the statement.
Established in 1993, the SC is a self-funding statutory body with investigative and enforcement powers, according to its website. It reports to Malaysia’s Minister of Finance.
