The search for MH370 goes on while we begin investigating why our initial response to its disappearance seemed so confused. In the mean time here are some of our best stories this week in case you missed a few: the news, analyses and comments you don’t get anywhere else.
Pick 1 — Breaking up Sime Darby. Sime Darby has not seen stable earnings despite forming a conglomerate following its mega merger six years ago. In fact it has actually lost value. Is it time for another restructuring? KiniBiz explores this question and more in the first four articles in our eight-part series here, here, here and here. Stay tuned for the next half next week.
Pick 2 — Jauhari likely to step down as MAS chief. Will Ahmad Jauhari Yahya stay much longer at Malaysian Airlines? Our sources say when his contract ends in September, it may not be extended. Read on here.
Pick 3 — Khalid reconsiders expired RM9.65 bil takeover offer. After Putrajaya invoked the Water Services Industry Act (WSIA) for takeover of Selangor’s water players, Mentri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim has said he is willing to reconsider letting water players revert to his previous RM9.65 billion offer, which has lapsed. Full story here.
Pick 4 — Take some blame, AirAsia. AirAsia and MAHB seems to be involved in a public blame game. But is AirAsia arrogant as said by prime minister Najib Abdul Razak? Our resident cat think AirAsia should take some of the blame for klia2 issues. Read on here.
Pick 5 — More questions than answers at klia2. While we’re on the subject of klia2, the saga has seen more questions rise than answers. For one, LCCT saw 15 mil passengers in 2009, half what KLIA did. But LCCT only cost 2% of KLIA’s RM10 bil. Is klia2 at over RM4 billion in cost too costly? In Question Time, our founding editor P Gunasegaram ponders the issue here.
Pick 6 — Utusan’s minions talk gibberish again. So Utusan Malaysia has hit out at Malaysiakini for practicing stone age journalism, which has tickled our resident cat pink with laughter. What does Utusan and Despicable Me have in common? Read on here.
