Integrated facilities manager AWC Bhd has bagged a contract worth RM61.95 million for plumbing works at the upcoming KL118 Tower Project, which is set to be the tallest building in Malaysia once completed.
In a regulatory filing today, AWC Bhd said the contract was awarded to its wholly owned unit Qudotech Sdn Bhd by Samsung C&T Corporation UEM Construction JV Sdn Bhd, the consortium that is the primary contractor for building the tower. The stated contract value excludes any goods and services tax.
“For the purposes of the subcontract, the date of commencement of the Project shall be 2 November 2015,” said AWC. “The completion date for the Project is 2 December 2019.”
Planned to be over 500 metres tall, KL118 is slated to be Malaysia’s tallest building when completed in 2019, barring construction delays. It is owned by Bumiputera equity fund Permodalan Nasional Berhad.
In October last year news media reported that a consortium comprising Samsung C&T and Khazanah Nasional-owned UEM Group had bagged the KL118 job worth reportedly US$505 million (RM2.12 billion at the time).
The consortium reportedly edged out five other bidders including a joint venture between Malaysian Resources Corporation Bhd and China State Construction Engineering Corp; a partnership between WCT Bhd and Arabtec Construction LLC; and a joint venture between IJM Corp, Norwest Holdings Sdn Bhd and Shimizu Corp.
At 2.42pm, AWC was up 2 sen to 44.5 sen per share.
