Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar of Johor has upped his stake in U Mobile Sdn Bhd from 10% to 15%, the company announced today.
The Sultan acquired his 10% stake in U Mobile last year. Commenting on the recent 5% stake acquisition, U Mobile chairman Vincent Tan said: “We are deeply honored and delighted that Sultan Ibrahim has increased his stake in the company from 10% to 15%. This truly reflects his confidence in the performance and future potential of U Mobile. I believe Sultan Ibrahim, with his vast experience and business acumen as well as his invaluable advice, will contribute positively to the future direction and development of U Mobile.”
U Mobile is Malaysia’s fourth-largest mobile operator.
Recently, Ookla, the global leader in broadband speed-testing and web-based network diagnostic applications, announced that U Mobile has the fastest mobile network in Malaysia, the company said in a statement today.
The biggest shareholder of U Mobile is Straits Mobile Investments Pte Ltd, with a 49% stake, while the second-largest shareholder is U Telemedia Sdn Bhd and its stake is 21.46%. Other shareholders include Johor Sultan at 15%, Magnum Bhd at 6.33%, Tan at 6.2% and Berjaya Infrastructure Sdn Bhd at 2.01%.
