Bursa Malaysia remained higher at mid-morning, lifted by gains in bluechips as traders took cues from the overnight rallies in Wall Street and oil prices.
At 11.14 am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 4.35 points better at 1,637.79, compared with yesterday’s close of 1,633.44, after opening 1.59 points higher at 1,635.03.
Gainers outpaced losers 349 to 312, with 307 counters unchanged, 772 untraded and 18 others suspended.
Turnover stood at 734.02 million shares worth RM467.37 million.
Top gainers were British American Tobacco, surging 80 sen to RM56.80 while Kuala Lumpur Kepong and Scientex were up 34 sen each to RM22.94 and RM10.98 respectively.
Top losers were United Plantations, down 28 sen to RM25.12, followed by Allianz, which declined 14 sen to RM10.06 and Nestle, which fell 12 sen to RM73.32.
Among heavyweights, Maybank eased 3 sen to RM8.32, TNB added 2 sen to RM13.08, Public Bank rose 4.0 sen to RM18.28 and Petronas Chemicals advanced 12 sen to RM7.10.
Of the actives, Nexgram was flat at 9 sen while Instacom and The Media Shoppe gained a sen each to 29 sen and 9.5 sen respectively.
On the scoreboards, the FBM Emas Index incrased 35.26 points to 11,483.68, the FBMT100 rose 33.51 points to 11,153.25 and the FBM Emas Shariah Index garnered 47.26 points for 12,444.07.
The FBM 70 improved 52.76 points to 12,964.31 and the FBM Ace bagged 15.76 points to 6,264.15.
Sector-wise, the Industrial Index was 13.5 points higher at 3,173.92, the Plantation Index increased 35.64 points to 7,548.53 and the Finance Index was 5.6 points lower at 13,723.24.
