KL shares higher at mid-afternoon

Markets Mid-afternoon Bursa Malaysia inside story 01Bursa Malaysia was higher at mid-afternoon today, with buying interests interspersed with mild profit-taking.

At 3 pm, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) stood at 1,633.63 points, up 6.97 points, from Tuesday’s 1,626.66 points.

The key benchmark index, which opened higher at 1,627.30, hit its highest level at 1,640.84 points in the morning session.

Market breadth was positive with gainers outpacing losers by 432 to 318 with 342 counters unchanged, 672 counters untraded and 59 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 984.47 million shares worth RM865.81 million.

Petronas Gas, which saw strong buying support, contributed 2.29 points to the increase in the key index. It rose 68 sen to RM21.90 with 251,200 shares traded.

CIMB and Petronas Chemicals added 6 sen each to RM4.10 and RM6.90, respectively. Tenaga Nasional rose 8 sen to RM13.02 and SapuraKencana improved 7 sen to RM1.67.

The FBM Emas Index rose 45.84 points to 11,351.14, FBMT100 Index improved 43.04 points to 11,056.63 and the FBM Emas Shariah Index gained 45.44 points to 12,246.64.

The FBM 70 rose 34.21 points to 12,607.54 and the FBM Ace jumped 49.19 points to 5,876.35.

Sector-wise, the Plantation Index rose 24.69 points to 7,494.98, Industrial Index advanced 0.44 of-a-point to 3,174.73 and the Finance Index edged up 64.95 points to 13,617.49.

Among actively-traded stocks, Media Shoppe, Tiger Synergy, Metronic and Nexgram were flat at 9 sen, 8 sen, 7 sen and 6 sen respectively, while XOX improved 1 sen to 19 sen.
