OCBC opens its 1st Islamic banking branch in Sabah

OCBC Al-Amin Sandakan branch opening - 28 Dec 2015OCBC Al-Amin Bank Bhd (OCBC Al-Amin) today opened its first Islamic banking branch in Sandakan, Sabah.

It marks the second OCBC branch located in Sabah, with the first branch being in Kota Kinabalu. OCBC Al-Amin now has 13 Islamic banking branches and 32 conventional banking branches in Malaysia.

The branch offers a range of the bank’s Islamic banking products and services for individuals, SMEs and corporates, as well as 24-hour electronic banking services for ATMs and Cash/Cheque Deposit Machines.

OCBC Al-Amin had been eyeing on its expansion into Sabah since it was first established in 2008, said its chief executive officer Syed Abdull Aziz Syed Kechik.

“Expansion into Sabah has been a key part of our overall Islamic banking network-building strategy from the start. The move brings us a step closer to being better represented in our key markets,” he said.

The bank is offering special promotions from now until Feb 29 next year for those opening accounts at the Sandakan branch, which includes preferential Fixed Deposit-i rates above the regular board rates.
