blackberry privBlackberry Ltd has released its first smartphone powered by Android – Priv.

Asia-Pacific channel marketing director Chris Jones said Priv was designed with security at its core, building on BlackBerry’s legacy of security and privacy of customers’ data.

“We believe this device will do well in terms of sales next year.

“With Malaysia remaining as BlackBerry’s key market in Southeast Asia, we are gearing up more efforts to offer more future smartphones,” he told reporters after the launch of Priv today.

“The customers can also pre-order Priv at selected Blue Cube Outlets managed by Celcom Axiata Bhd, from Dec 10 at RM3,388,” he said.

Distributed by Brightstar, Priv will also be available through 11street, Celcom, Maxis Enterprise, Tune Talk and other BlackBerry’s authorised partners, from Dec 15 at a retail price of RM3,559.

Priv is packaged in an ultra-thin device-including a dual-curved screen, touch and physical keyboards, state-of-the-art 18-megapixel camera and long-lasting battery.
