PR1MA Corp Malaysia is confident of securing approval for 240,000 units of its affordable housing as mandated in the three previous federal budgets by the end of the year, according to chief executive officer Abdul Mutalib Alias.

To date, a total of 199,172 units have secured approvals nationwide, and is under various stages of project delivery. Of the 199,172 units approved, a total of 65,000 units are under construction.

Balloting process is opened to eligible applicants as soon as the project secures development order, with completion expected within two to three years from balloting date. Twenty seven out of 171 PR1MA projects are expected to be balloted by year-end.

PR1MA is also looking at composite building technology which will speed up the construction process at the same cost and uncompromised quality. Two of the PR1MA projects in Simpang Pulai, Perak and Tunjung, Perlis are being executed with such building technology currently, with plans to adopt similar technology in more of its future projects.

Abdul Mutalib declined to elaborate further pending confirmation.

PR1MA is mandated to build 500,000 units of affordable housing by 2018 in Budget 2013. A total of 1.05 million registrants have registered with PR1MA as of September 2015.

PR1MA is going on a nationwide exhibition to promote its affordable housing programme. The expo will congregate its private developers and financial institutions, while homebuyers are able to take part in balloting and unit selection for PR1MA projects during the exhibition.

“We have worked very hard to achieve numbers to date, it’s time we show the public where we are,” said Abdul Mutalib.

Abdul Mutalib added that it will be an opportunity for the public to be aware of the location of PR1MA housing, to get a look and feel of the houses as well as the price range of its houses. The first exhibition is set to take place in Kedah, from Oct 16 to Oct 18, 2015 at Dewan Kenangan Sultan Abdul Hamid, MPSPK, Sungai Petani.

The nationwide home exhibition series will also be extended to the states of Malacca (Oct 30 to Nov 1), Johor (Nov 6 to Nov 8), Kuala Lumpur (Nov 13 to Nov 15), Sarawak and Sabah between end-2015 and early 2016.

PR1MA was established under the 2012 PR1MA Act to roll out a thorough and extensive programme in building houses for the middle-income group who live in urban areas, with a household income between RM2,500 and RM10,000 a month. PR1MA houses range from RM100,000 to RM400,000.
