Legoland marks 2nd anniversary with Star Wars launch

Star Wars Legoland eventLegoland Malaysia Resort marked its second anniversary on Sept 15 with the launch of the Lego Star Wars Miniland Model Display.

The model display which is yet to open to public is the first attraction of its kind in Asia and is the latest lego model display to open at a Legoland  around the world.

Housed in an octagon building with a floor size of 900m2 divided into eight areas, the attraction features seven scenes from the six Star Wars films and The Clone Wars animated series in great detail.

The attraction features more than 2,000 lego models built to a 1:20 scale using 1.5 million lego bricks and will be officially opened to the public on Sept 6.

Ong Hong Peng, the secretary general of the Ministry of Tourism and Culture said that Legoland Malaysia has always been committed in supporting the National Key Economic Area (NKEA) Tourism Initiative and it is a game changer under the strategic thrust of family fun.

“Since its opening two years ago, Legoland Malaysia Resort has contributed significantly to Johor Bahru’s position as a tourist destination. As part of the Iskandar cluster, we cannot deny the importance of Legoland Malaysia Resort for promoting tourism offerings in Malaysia,” said Ong while adding that he looks forward to the special MyFest packages to be offered by Legoland in accordance to the theme “Endless Celebrations”.

Mark Germyn, the general manager Legoland Malaysia Resort said that the key strategy is adding a new element annually to ensure guests have exciting reasons to visit and come back for more.

“We are confident that guests to Legoland Malaysia Resort will find their visit here more exciting than ever for the whole family,” he said.

He added that families can easily spend more than an hour exploring this new model display alone since it is fully indoor and air-conditioned  in addition to the over 70 hands-on rides, slides, shows and attractions at the resort.

According to Legoland Malaysia Resort, it has invested more than RM6 million into this new attraction, which is the biggest development at the the resort this year. It believes that Legoland as a catalyst project in Iskandar, continues to grow stronger tourism value and attract more international visitors.

To mark its second anniversary, Legoland wowed visitors with a special birthday fireworks display. Various Lego Star Wars activities have been lined up to commemorate the anniversary celebrations in September which includes a free entry promotion for children dressed up as their favourite Star Wars characters.

The promotion is ongoing from Sept 6 to 30.  Meanwhile, annual pass holders enjoyed previews of the new attraction from Sept 1 to 5 before the attraction opened to the public.
