The four-day Heimtextil Show of Frankfurt, which ended on Saturday, turned out to be a lucrative hunting ground for a Selangor-based company which showcased its memory foam mattress that fetched a good response from discerning buyers looking for high-end products.
Fernex Sdn Bhd, which participated for the first time at the Frankfurt show, said the participation could not have been better.
“Heimtextil has been a good show for us. The result has been much better than we had expected.
“We met serious buyers whom we did not meet at the International Furniture Fair of Cologne which is held immediately after the Heimtextil show.
“We are extremely happy with the results at the Heimtextil show in Frankfurt which we will attend in future,” Fernex marketing director Lim Lee-Kheang told Bernama.
However, she said it was not just the good vibes at the show that propelled her confidence as the company managed to secure a concrete business order worth between US$200,000 (RM710,800) and US$300,000.
“Over and above, we also received serious business enquiries which could easily translate into tangible business worth an impressive value.
“I am happy that we came. It has been worth our investment and effort,” she said.
Lim described her base-product memory foam as a “slow recovery foam” which performs a pressure-relieving function facilitating blood circulation.
“This foam has become very popular in the market, especially with consumers who crave for comfort when they lie down,” she claimed, adding that her company had, ostensibly, benefited from the fact that it was already a well-known material in the Western markets.
Lim said she also received enquiries from buyers from around the world, including the United States, Canada, South America, Saudi Arabia, Spain, France and the United Arab Emirates.
Meanwhile, Olaf Schmidt, vice-president (textiles and textile technologies) of Messe Frankfurt, organiser of the Heimtextil show, urged exhibitors from Malaysia and the remaining Asean member countries to avail themselves of the high level of international grade at the Frankfurt show.
“Heimtextil provides a unique platform to show your cases,” he added.
Though exhibitor figures from the Asean region were much lower than those of other Asian countries, Schmidt believes that some Asean member countries will do very well in the textile sector.
