Nasution Mohamed has made a return to the chief financial officer’s (CFO) chair at Maxis Bhd, after a five month stint as its joint chief operating officer (COO), much of which was a period of change and restructuring for the telco. He will also be Maxis’ Strategy Officer, responsible for overseeing strategy, regulatory and legal functions
The decision to make Nasution joint COO came after Maxis’ chosen successor for the vacant chief executive officer (CEO) seat Johan Dennelind withdrew just a month before he was to assume the reins, as family concerns forced him to return home to Sweden.
Dennelind’s decision coincided with then joint COO Mark Dioguardi surprisingly choosing to leave a month before the expiry of his contract, also due to family obligations.
With these two key positions vacant, Maxis appointed Nasution to replace Dioguardi as joint COO on June 1, 2013.
When appointing Nasution to the position of joint COO, Maxis said that together with the other COO Suren Amarasekara he would be responsible for refining the company’s structure to better respond to customer needs and in spearheading plans to get the best out of Maxis employees; while adding that he would continue to have a focus on financial issues.
However, with new CEO Morten Lundal now a month into the job, it appears that the Maxis leadership have decided to return Nasution to his original position as CFO and allow him to fully focus on the company’s financial matters.
The designation means that for the first time in the second half of 2013, all three top positions in Maxis – CEO, COO and CFO are all filled.
