CIMB Group Holdings Bhd’s board of directors has appointed Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz to the role of chief executive officer (CEO) of CIMB Bank effective Jan 20, 2016. Zafrul already holds the CIMB group CEO post.

In light of this appointment, Zafrul will resign as CEO of CIMB Investment Bank effective the same date. While the board identifies a successor, Kong Sooi Lin, who is currently the deputy CEO of CIMB Investment Bank, has been named the person-in-charge.

“This appointment reflects the board’s confidence in Zafrul and underscores his accomplishments as group CEO since his appointment as he leads the firm through a challenging period of change and transition. CIMB Bank is our largest operating entity and this move consolidates his position as the Group’s primary executive officer,” said Nazir Razak, chairman of CIMB Group.

While Zafrul said: “It is indeed an honour to be entrusted with this responsibility and I look forward to working closely with the leadership team and the rest of the staff in guiding CIMB Bank towards becoming a leading Asean banking group.”
