An estimated 20 million Malaysians will enjoy the benefits of the goods and services tax (GST) rebates for prepaid cards next year, said Communications and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak.
In a statement, he noted that beginning Jan 1, 2016, prepaid customers who are Malaysian nationals will be eligible for the GST rebates.
“This will indeed benefit customers, as announced by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak during the tabling of Budget 2016 last October,” he said.
Salleh said he was happy to note that the telecommunication companies are ready for the GST rebate implementation for prepaid customers.
He called on the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to monitor this exercise to ensure its smooth implementation.
The minister said the commission should continue to work closely with the telecommunication companies while, at the same time, ensuring that customers’ interests remain a priority.
