IRIS Corporation Bhd group managing director and group chief executive officer Tan Say Jim has been named Malaysian Ernst & Young (EY) Entrepreneur Of The Year (EOY) 2015.
Tan, who also won the Master Entrepreneur category award, will go on to represent Malaysia and join more than 60 other country winners to compete for the EY World Entrepreneur Of The Year (WEOY) award at the annual WEOY event in Monte Carlo, Monaco in June next year.
Tan vied with 19 other nominees for the Malaysian award. According to EY, the 20 nominees have a collective revenue of RM5 billion and employ 13,000 people. Apart from the award for Entrepreneur of The Year, winners were named in four other categories:
Emerging Entrepreneur Of The Year 2015 – Timothy Tiah, CEO, Netccentric Ltd.
Technology Entrepreneur Of The Year 2015 – Liew Choon Lian, group chairman and CEO, MDT Innovations Sdn Bhd.
Woman Entrepreneur Of The Year 2015 – Jerrene Pang, executive director, Coolblog Group of Companies.
Master Entrepreneur Of The Year 2015 – Tan Say Jim, group managing director and group CEO, IRIS Corporation Bhd.
Minister of International Trade and Industry Mustapa Mohamed who officiated the event, said: “Entrepreneurs play a vital role in driving the country towards achieving our vision of becoming a developed nation by 2020. We need bolder and more innovative entrepreneurs to contribute in charting our country’s growth, especially against the backdrop of global economic uncertainty. Malaysian entrepreneurs must also take advantage of our regional economic integration initiatives such as the Asean Economic Community to expand their footprint and actively participate on the regional and global stage.”
He added that Malaysian entrepreneurs should have the courage to explore opportunities in the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) countries. “We believe that the TPP will provide more opportunities for Malaysian companies. Going forward, we should embrace openness and have the courage to explore new markets and new opportunities,” he said.
