Visa and the Credit Counselling and Debt Management Agency (AKPK) launched their latest financial literacy programme at the Grand Hyatt Hotel today. Present at the launch were Visa country manager Ng Kong Boon and AKPK chief executive officer Azaddin Ngah Tasir.
This programme marked the third year Visa and AKPK are collaborating to promote financial education among Malaysians.
“Visa is pleased to continue its partnership with AKPK to promote financial education in the country and this is aligned with the nation’s efforts,” said Ng.
This year’s financial literacy programmes targets students and fresh graduates via an online game called Cent-sible Choice. The game is aimed to educate players on responsible financial management concepts on the areas of spending habits, investing and budgeting.
Players will be given a fictional budget and will be presented with various scenarios that will test their spending habits.
Unlike previous years where the content of the programme was taken from Visa’s global programme, Cent-sible was developed in Malaysia and tailored for young Malaysians.
This new programme targets the young Malaysians as both Visa and AKPK believe responsible financial habits should be developed early.
“We believe that financial literacy should be taught from a young age, especially before Malaysians enter the workforce. Hence we created Cent-sible Choice, targeted at both students and fresh graduates to provide them with the necessary knowledge, skills and confidence to make sound financial choices,” said Ng.
Azaddin added: “It is important that we help the youth build a solid foundation and educate them on the concepts of financial management.”
“We believe that with the right knowledge and skills, we will be able to cultivate a young generation who practises prudent financial management as a way of life,” he said.
Visa and AKPK hope to targets some 5,000 participants. Cent-sible Choice will be promoted through Visa’s Facebook page, AKPK’s website and bloggers.
The game will feature weekly winners with a grand prize of RM5,000, will run from Oct 1 to Nov 30. The prizes will be in the form of Visa debit and prepaid cards. The game can be accessed at www.centsiblechoice.com.my.
