CIMB Islamic Bank chief executive officer Badlisyah Abdul Ghani has released a statement to emphasise that a Facebook posting by him, on the validity of documents used by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) in its recent reports which claimed billions of ringgit were deposited into accounts belonging to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, were strictly his personal views

In a press statement Badlisyah said: “I would like to make clear that all the views published on my Facebook account are strictly my personal views and not the views of any other individual or organisation. They were meant for private consumption among a group of friends.”

In the Facebook post, he had suggested that WSJ had fallen for doctored or falsified documents and based his claim on an analysis of the ‘Swift’ message documents released by WSJ yesterday.

However, a Malaysiakini report highlighted that there were some errors in Badlisyah’s interpretation of the documents and in particular of the ‘Swift’ codes. The full story can be read here.

In his statement, Badlisyah admitted the error and said: “I would also like to acknowledge that I had made an error in my post with regards to my analysis of the various Swift codes. The mistakes were correctly pointed out by a report in Malaysiakini on the matter, and I have also made the correction on my Facebook page.”
